In this big bad world, one hears grotesque news on an everyday basis. Sometimes one may feel as if there is little hope left in the world. Even if we take into account the current situation of the pandemic one realises that life is unpredictable, and nothing is truly planned. It is in times such as these that one realises the importance of art and culture. Though we may not realise it but art and culture play an important role in the lives of each one of us. Culture – a simple word, has a deep and complex meaning. If one actually thinks about it the meaning of the word culture is not really define but rather binds the people belonging to country or a region together and brings in a feeling of brotherhood by reminding us that we are not alone and there is probably someone in the world who is in exactly in the same position as us at that given point of time.

Art is an expression of a particular person or a group of people. As rightly said- art speaks the soul of its culture. It can have a large effect on culture as it can be symbolic of traits, festivals, morals and religious characteristics. Art defines the culture of a place because culture is sometimes defined as the tastes in art, choices and manners that are favoured by a particular group. In simple words culture is the pattern of behaviours, values and ideas shared by a group. Art and culture induce a sense of belonging and tolerance of people. It enhances and increases the knowledge base.

Digitisation of the world has reduced the importance of art and culture in our lives. However, being closely associated with our culture and art not only beautifies our inner state but also keeps us connected with each other anywhere in the world. Patronising the local art forms of any community is no longer difficult from anywhere in the world. For example, with the help of various food delivery websites one can order the traditional food of their homeland by just a simple click of a button.

Further needs of education and livelihood scatter us all over the world but in the end it is the culture and the values associated with it that keep us polarised towards our roots. It is a global trend to visit family during festival times. Language is an inherent part of culture as it is the most unifying bond that entwines people of a land together irrespective of the place they are currently in. Places of worship abroad keep the culture alive as all festivals of the respective community are celebrated there. Looking at these examples one can probably assert that the culture of a place can be compared to the string in a garland of beautiful flowers which keeps us collected and bonded. So I would like to conclude by quoting a great saying….arts and culture do not really have a geopolitical boundary, so it is probably one of the best ways of cultivating understanding between people.
