Our nineteenth contribution is from Bol Deng from SOUTH SUDAN.

My name is Bol Deng, 12 years old and I am from South Sudan.

Who is your role model? And why?
My role model is Wany Nin, a nurse care provider. He has been working for Doctors without Borders / MSF. Wany worked in the wound care room. We use to play football and the nature of the playing ground is not good; we are easily exposed to getting injuries. When someone from
our team gets injured, Wany takes care for his wound with humility. He also communicates very well with us and MSF takes him to different places to help other people. This is why I admire him: to be able to help others when they need it and extent his services to other places.

One dream you wish come true. State why.
My dream is to become a doctor. This is because I have an ambition to help others, especially my family and community, when someone feels sick. I remember in 2015 when my three brothers were affected by a certain disease (Kala Azar). I couldn’t believe that they were going to get back to live but luckily a doctor saved their lives. This made me always think to do the same thing; to treat those that are suffering from diseases. I hope to work towards becoming a doctor if I get an opportunity as I am growing up.

The picture shows the longest river in the world: the river Nile, passing through Juba, the capital of South Sudan.
